Children's bookshop, specialising in neurodiversity Shop Now

Love books, passionate about diversity?

We are a small, independent children’s bookshop with BIG ideas. A partnership between a children’s publishing expert and a teacher/Senco. In a little bookshop in Hitchin, Herts. We stock children’s books from baby to young adult and everything in between. We also have a small but perfectly formed selection for grown-ups and we can order pretty much any book that’s currently in print.

We specialise in books that support and celebrate diversity in all its forms, and particularly neurodiversity. We search out books with characters who are autistic, have dyslexia or ADHD, are anxious about school, or who have difficulties with communication and much more! We work with individuals, families, schools and libraries to make sure you can find a book that speaks to you.

We make book recommendations, curate lists to support particular needs, celebrate events, for specific topics and to increase diversity. We also have author events and more.

🩵What a gorgeous coffee break! We were kindly sent a proof of @simonjamesgreen ‘s latest YA book🩵The Big Ask, published on 6th June by @barringtonstoke @harpercollinsuk £7.99🩵’Harvey is popular, cool, plays football and has been in a relationship with his girlfriend Summer for years. Alfie is not popular, not cool, has a sick note to get out of PE, and has been in a relationship with his Xbox since forever. So when Summer dramatically dumps Harvey just a few days before prom, no one is expecting Alfie to ask Harvey to be his date. Least of all Alfie. But sometimes amazing things can happen when you take a chance…’🩵I just loved this LGBTQ+ school love story, it’s funny, kind and hopeful.🩵As it’s a Barrington Stoke title, it’s super readable, neurodivergent-friendly (tinted paper, dyslexia-friendly font, carefully chosen language). Reading age: 8, interest age: 13+But it’s also perfect for any young person who’s just like a quick read (in between revising!) that I promise will put them in an optimistic mood for not only their prom, but also the exciting years to follow.🩵A Y11 or Y13 treat to encourage a break from studying? Or to support mental health in someone feeling anxious about the end of school celebrations? Schools- this is perfect to have in the library for all those kids who have a prom coming up… 🩵Can’t wait for the real thing to hit the shelves at the start of June. Pre-order via our website, pop into the shop or email us, we’d be delighted to sort an order for you. #dyslexiafriendlybooks #neurodivergentfriendly #inclusivebooks #lgbtq #lgbtqteens #teens #Y11 #Y13 #prom #booksforteens #youngadultbooks #bookshops #childrensbookshops #hitchin #hitchintown #herts #hertsbedsbucks ...
