Where do you turn when life is hard for your child? When they can’t do what others can, or are not making progress no matter how hard you try. Or they are too anxious or unwell to try anything? You may know what your child needs but find it hard to explain to others. Or you may not know where to begin. Your child may be in school, on the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) register and you’re thinking about an EHCP (Education Health and Care Plan). Or your child may be unable to get through the school gates, or learning from home because that’s what suits them best or because nothing else is working.
Where do you go next? How do you navigate the SEND system? What if you don’t understand what it all means, or you disagree with the suggested plan? What are your options?

Liz will be running 6 week parent courses to give families the knowledge and confidence to advocate for their child/young person with SEND. As an independent SENDCo, Liz is able to advise on support in and out of school, and suggest alternatives to the traditional pathways. This course will equip you with knowledge of the SEND system, including the Code of Practice, areas of need and steps to take towards EHCPs. We’ll look at positive ways to manage the work involved in getting your child with SEND the support they need: how to work with professionals, organise paperwork, manage anxiety (yours and your child’s), and cut through everything to get clear next steps in your SEND journey. We’ll start with the positives – the things your child is great at – and work together to get them the support they deserve.
